Past and present intertwine as A., a film director in his fifties finds himself becoming a part of the film he is making, a chronicle of the tumultuous life and enduring love of his parents Spyros and Eleni. The historical events that marked their lives have their present day parallels. For Spyros and Eleni it was the Second World War which separated them after he immigrated to America in search of a better life as a musician and the Greek civil war that kept them apart when she ended up in the Soviet Union along with other political exiles. For A. it is the Vietnam War, which forces him to flee to Canada and the fall of the Berlin Wall, which signals the birth of a new era... more

Thank Eric for his reminder of the premier.
The avant premiere screening of the film was held at Olympion Theater in the context of the 49th Thessloniki International Film Festival on 22 Nov 2008. Thessloniki was one of the scenes at the beginning of the first film of the trilogy.
Time, a basic element of Angelopoulos’ film was the most touched upon topic during the press conference a few hours before the premiere. ‘Dust of Time is a film that treats the past as if it were in the present’, commented Theo Angelopoulos when asked to what extend the film involves contemporary Greece and went on by saying: ‘In Western philosophy we accept that past and present are separate ideas. In the East they consider time as one. We are past and present at the same time. History is not something that happened once and was lost forever after. When we ignore it we are incapable of understanding the present. How can someone comment on what’s happening today without relating it to what has happened yesterday or many years ago?’
Too busy recently. Have you seen The Dust of Time?
